Topic: The 14th Amendement of the U.S. Constitution in Protecting the Civil Rights of Every Person

L. Darnell Weeden, a law professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University in Houston earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. 1972) in Journalism and Political Science and a Juris Doctor (J.D. 1975) from the University of Mississippi. Weeden earned a M.A., from Antioch School of Law Washington, D.C. in 1979. Weeden is the first African American to graduate from the University of Mississippi Journalism School. He has been a tenured full Professor at Thurgood Marshall School of Law since 1990 and served as its Associate Dean for Faculty Development & Research from 2005- 2012. Weeden served as the interim Dean of Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1998 for one year, and as its director of clinical programs from 1990-1992. While serving as clinic director, Weeden coauthored (with Ken Williams) a $250,000 federal grant to establish a legal clinic too assist homeless people in Houston. Weeden currently teaches Constitutional Law I & II, Torts I & II.
In 2008 Weeden’s tribute to Justice Thurgood Marshall at a Mississippi College Law Review Symposium was broadcasted by the C-SPAN network on its Law and the Courts Program. Weeden is the author of more than fifty law review publications. Weeden is in demand as a speaker. Professor Weeden has presented a paper or served as a panelist at several law schools including the University of Virginia, George Washington, Norte Dame, University of Iowa, St John’s, Seton Hall, Tulane, University of University of Nevada, University of South Carolina, American University, Marquette, University of New Mexico, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Mississippi College School of Law, Boston University, Brigham Young University, Florida International University, South Texas College of Law, St. Mary University, Cumberland, Thurgood Marshall the University of Puerto Rico Law School and in Barbados, West Indies. Weeden believes racial profiling endangers the civil rights of all. His Selected Racial Profiling Scholarship includes more than 10 law review articles. L.J. 55 (2009) is an example of his race profiling scholarship.
